Dalla grandiosa ricostruzione che segue il rovinoso terremoto del 1693 sino ai bagliori di una fin de siècle illuminista, musica e cultura urbana interagiscono in un fitto intreccio di relazioni, narrate qui sulla base di un approfondito riesame documentario. Nell’attività dei teatri, nelle feste religiose, negli apparati spettacolari, nella vita quotidiana delle cappelle ecclesiastiche si rispecchiano le scene urbane di una città che a fine ’700 conquista a buon titolo l’appellativo di «grande Catania».

From the reconstruction after the earthquake of 1693 up to the glows of a fin-de-siècle Enli-ghtenment, music and urban culture interact in a web of relations described here thanks to a thorough documentary reconstruction. The activity of theatres, the religious festivities, the spectacular apparatus, the everyday life of chapels reflect the ‘urban scenes’ of a town that at the end of the XVIIIth century deserved the name of «great Catania».
