This work by Michael Rohde, one of the major representatives of restoration and conservation of European historic gardens, explains very clearly the theory and practice of the restoration and maintenance of historic gardens. The subject is organized into two parts. The first, concerning the past, is based on ancient texts, the second, concerning the present, is based on direct evidence from thirty of the most important German gardens and parks.
