Perdute le musiche dello stesso Ferrari e di Francesco Manelli, i testi presentano nondimeno la trasparente sinopia di una drammaturgia che al fascino della spettacolarità scenica unisce la seduzione di intrecci vuoi favolosi e cavallereschi, vuoi romanzeschi e comici.

The six plays that Benedetto Ferrari wrote between 1637 and 1644 are the first examples of an extraordinarily successful theatrical genre, the Venitian musical drama. Although the original scores composed by Ferrari himself and by Francesco Manelli are lost, the texts clearly show the first characters of a scenic tradition that would be based on both the seduction of fantastic and humorous stories, and the charms of spectacular effects.
